Message from the Principal

Welcome to Ernest Bevin College's website which I hope you will find interesting and informative. I joined Ernest Bevin in 2001 as a Vice Principal. I was then appointed Joint Principal in 2006 and have been sole Principal since January 2015.

The ethos of the college is one of high expectations of behaviour and learning in conjunction with a warm, friendly and positive environment. We have recently regained the recognised International Status Award and are proud to be multi-cultural and multi-faith with nearly 60 home languages spoken in our community. The college has recently been awarded STEM Assured status - one of only 4 schools in the country to achieve this. As a result, the college aims to become a STEM hub which will open up a vast number of opportunities for our pupils and staff. The college was judged 'Outstanding' in our last Ofsted.

In 2015 we as a school re-evaluated ourselves about what we stood for and what was important to us. As a result we have 5 clear values which encapsulates Ernest Bevin College. These are : Opportunity, Happiness, Respect, Tolerance and Resilience. Our values are modelled by all members of the community and reflect our ethos. We are totally inclusive and are proud to have community pupils and staff of all backgrounds, abilities and needs and we ensure that we are able to provide so that each individual is able to fulfill their potential.

I am extremely proud of the achievements of our pupils. In 2017: 63% of the Year 11 achieved 5 or more GCSEs including both English and Maths, 32% achieved the Ebacc and the percentage of A*-C grades at GCSE was 65%. These figures are above the national average for boys. Our Sixth Form has grown steadily over the last 5 years both in terms of the number of students and their achievements. This year 77% of our Year 11 have returned to our Sixth Form. Each year over 100 students go to university out of a cohort of approximately 150.

The college has a highly stable and committed staff who have high expectations of themselves and their pupils and who work very hard to meet individual needs. We like to look after our staff by providing support and training and a good environment in which to work. Every classroom is equipped with an interactive white board or Smart TV and all staff are provided with a surface tablet. The college has a track record of succession planning and staff have many opportunities for internal promotion. Virtually all of our senior and middle managers have been internally promoted which reflects the low staff turnover and the staff commitment and loyalty to the institution and pupils.

The college buildings are of a very high standard, providing excellent facilities in all curriculum areas. We have recently refurbished our Science Laboratories and Food Technology room which reflect our desire for continuous improvements in our learning environment. The college opened its new £7 million Sixth Form Centre and Sports Complex in recent years which has provided us with new Sixth Form accommodation, including a lecture theatre and common room.

The college has a proven track record of sporting success at local, regional and international level. The sports facilities are of the highest standard and include a sports hall, a 25m swimming pool, a dojo (for judo) and a fitness suite. We work with Greenhouse Sports and Harlequins FC to provide 4 dedicated sports coaches training our pupils to compete and national and international levels in the the sports of judo, table tennis, volleyball and rugby. We have just opened a Cricket Academy to enable students to benefit from professional cricket coaching and a full programme of competitive matches alongside their studies. We are the only school in London to open a new Combined Cadet Force (CCF) unit in recent years and the Royal Marines will be working with some of our pupils.

I look forward to meeting you as you visit Ernest Bevin College.
